Cyber security is extremely important in the business world. Almost every modern business uses some form of electronic or digital system that is prone to cyber threats. Costs associated with implementing anything in business tends to be something of important consideration, however in order to acquire and effectively implement cyber security measures in a company costs can be very high. The cost of the hardware can be expensive, the cost to install and configure the software can also be costly, the cost associated with training employees on how to use the software can be high, as this could also imply down time where no financial productivity is able to be done. Lastly the constant updates, maintenance and changes to both software and hardware could produce both a time and financial cost. The benefits speak for themselves. Annually cyber attacks account for more than 11 billion dollars in damages in the United States. Protecting against these attacks cannot only increase a company’s revenue. It can also improve customer satisfaction so that the retention rate of customers increases instead of remaining stagnant or God forbid negative. Another way they can give a company benefit beyond its customer’s is that it can prevent employees from having access to sensitive company information that is above their paygrade. This can prevent a company from having to deal with a threat from within as the structure of the security software can prevent employees from having access and can alert the proper authorities when the someone from within attempts to gain access to information they’re not suppose to have. The security software can also prevent employees from being exposed to personal attacks that hackers may then try to use as bait to launch an attack from within via blackmail. At the end of the day the level of security is up to the discretion of the company but more often time than not the added layer of cyber security in business is worth the cost.
