Module 5 covered a lot of material about risk management and how companies need to constantly train their employees. The module also goes over how employees and humans can be vulnerabilities to a company or organization. This is because there are things like romance scams and phishing emails.
- The amount of attacks that happen in the industrial cybersecurity field is so many that companies always need to stay up to date with current risks. These attacks can vary and can do significant damage to a company depending on their infrastructure. These attacks can cost lives, make companies shutdown, attain fines etc. Some of these attacks can be planned to jump over a gap in their systems to access the industrial network.
- In May 2017 the WannaCry ransomware attacks affected 200,000 systems and 150 countries in the world. The malware was not designed to affect the ICS networks but managed to affect industrial downtime processes. Cybersecurity attacks happen so commonly and there are new exploits everyday that we need to figure out how to defend our systems. In Flint Michigan, there was lead that got into the water which was caused by an attack towards the filtration plants. Even if companies are always up to date and constantly train their employees, nobody is actually ready for a zero day attack.
