Module 4 covers a lot of material about cyberthreats. We went over how to prevent attacks from happening and where these cyberthreats are found in today’s world.

Phishing attacks have been around for a while and will probably still be used in the future. The number one leading reason that companies get compromised is because a phishing attack is used to withdrawal sensitive information from a message that an employee or person can think it is safe. In the 1990’s people had to pay a fee for a floppy disk to gain access to dial up internet. Eventually users started to change their names to trick everyone into thinking they were administrators. They used this power to pull login credentials and other information a user was storing or exposed to. The rate of phishing has not dropped and will probably continue to be used on citizens because there is no actual way to prevent every phishing email from getting to somebody’s inbox.

This attack is so commonly used due to the amount of information somebody can access due to one email. This method also works great because it works because of human psychology. It is interesting to see this tactic used in the workplace to train future employees or just regularly to make sure a companies employees or management is up to date. The best way to defend yourself from this attack is to have a spam email folder that they will be sent to, or just not opening an email that is too good to be true.
