The internet and other types of cyber technology are easily some of the greatest human inventions of mankind. for the past few decades, the internet has improved and impacted the daily lives of humanity in a number of different ways. But with that vast amount of good, comes a lot of bad. and as a result of this, developing proper cyber-policy and cyber-infrastructure has become a number one priority. With that being said, when it comes to the development of cyber policy and infrastructure, i believe the best approach is one with a very strong emphasis on defense. In the early days of commercial/public access to the internet, the internet at that time was something similar to the Wild West. There was always an air of unpredictability when it came to what went on. And while much time has past since those days, that air of unpredictability has never truly went away. There’s no way to predict everything that could happen on the internet and when with absolute certainty. So the best thing people can do is simply work to limit the likelihood of a negative cyber-event happening and in the inevitable time that one does happen, work to increase the ability to recover from those events. the internet is a system that is constantly growing and evolving and as a result of this, the policies that govern and the infrastructure that holds everything together should reflect that constant change. New policies, rules and laws should be created with the idea of them being amended in the future, and new updated versions of hardware and software systems should be coming out very few years that fix and eliminate the flaws of previous versions. Not only should the approach to policies and infrastructure change, but the people behind these things should change as well. I believe that the people at the head of these decision making processes should be people that properly represent the societal era that these cyber policies and infrastructures are being designed for. No disrespect to people of older generations, i believe that they have a lot to add to the newer generations, but i feel that people that make these ultimate decisions should be people that came up in the recent internet eras.
