My Major of Cybersecurity relates to cybersecurity technology in the sense that the technology that is used in the field of cybersecurity allows people to efficiently do their job. my Major involves learning about the many different Technologies that are used in the field, Both hardware and Software. For example, when it comes to hardware, in the major of cybersecurity you will learn about and become more familiar with physical devices such as computers, disks, hard drives etc. And when it comes to software, you will learn about the several cybersecurity programs designed to protect devices against harmful malware such as firewalls. My major also goes into explaining how this technology is used, both for positive, protective purposes as well as for nefarious purposes. For example, in many Cybersecurity classes, we learn about the different types of hackers. When most people think about a hacker, they immediately think of the nefarious hackers that only look to exploit online websites and companies for their own benefit, but in actuality, not every hacker in like that. You will learn about White Hat or Ethical Hackers who use their knowledge and cybersecurity technology for the positive reasons such as testing the strength of a websites protection measures. My major also involves learning about the history of cybersecurity technology and also looks at how the technology is constantly growing and evolving. My major also shows the impact of the use and misuse of these technologies, with students learning about the many different and largest news events and court cases that involve cybersecurity technology. the major also involves interdisciplinary courses where students will learn about how the skills and technology of cybersecurity are used in other fields of study and work. For example, Cybersecurity and its technology are in much use in fields such as criminal justice, the military and business.
