Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology?
In our current digital age of society many of us depend on computer systems and networks daily. Cybersecurity technology is a dynamic protective measure that is increasingly important. A successfully ran cybersecurity program must ensure the reliability, integrity, and privacy of the systems/network supporting their data. So why am I interested in cybersecurity technology?
As technology within society continuously evolves, it is important to align oneself with the way of the future. The range of cybersecurity extends from personal devices, applications, national infrastructure, banking networks, and military capabilities to name a few. According to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, “assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof.”
Additionally, because of technology and the connectiveness it provides to the world, there are more “startup” businesses and firms than ever. An important component of many of these startups is the usage of cloud services to store business and/or client information. The increased usage and storage managed by these systems can lead to software breaches, theft, or spillage if not monitored vigilantly. The safeguard of this cloud information is another example of the increasing need for cybersecurity professionals.
All things considered, having extensive knowledge of cybersecurity technology will open the door for many job opportunities. Due to my current profession of being a member of the armed forces, I am accustomed to the importance and norms of effective cybersecurity protocols. I plan to couple my current knowledge of cybersecurity with the wealth of information I hope to learn within Old Dominion’s curriculum. Upon my retirement from the armed forces, I plan to transition into a civilian position with the Department of Defense or private sector.
Very Respectfully,
Justin M. Gregory
