On the base level, internet access and having a smartphone on their person at all times has become a psychological need for many individuals to the point that they may not function without their daily fix of internet content. Of course, being addicted to the cyber space requires cybersecurity which becomes the next step up the hierarchy: safety needs.<br><br>Social media and communication apps act as the belongingness and love needs with many needing likes and attention and the ability to call friends over the internet to function. The need for social media also comes within the territory of esteem needs as a psychological dependence of likes on what people say or the photos they post has become a crucial mark of some people\u2019s ability to maintain their self-esteem. <br><br>This toxic way of viewing social media, the internet, and technology as a whole can stop many people from reaching the top of the hierarchy of self-actualization. Many depend on the internet to get their dopamine fix which restricts them from achieving their goals in life as their digital life takes a hold of them.<br><br>Maslow\u2019s theory provides the ability for people to realize how damaging technology can be on their psychology and so it still holds relevance both in terms of modern psychology and in terms of analyzing technology\u2019s prevalence on psychology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the dependency many people find themselves having with the internet and technology nowadays, the psychology of technology must be cross-referenced with basic psychological principles to truly analyze what the internet is doing to our brains.
