In today’s age, the need for social cybersecurity experts is becoming more and more of a necessity. The article “Social Cybersecurity An Emerging National Security Requirement” makes this clear as it outlines the evolution of modern warfare into two parts: information and digital maneuvering. Instead of declaring wars and fighting with physical soldiers and assets, war is becoming a constant digital front with cyber competition constantly ongoing. It involves positioning the nation’s views and beliefs as good in the public eye while demeaning the views and stances of the enemy. All-the-while this social conditioning is backed up by efforts to take digital ground away from the enemy. This further breaks down into two main categories in the BEND model: information and network maneuvering. Plainly put, altering the access and skewing the truth behind information in cyberspace allows the populus to be manipulated and be narrowly shown what beliefs they should hold. While network maneuvering sees social groups sees communities being formed, manipulated, and generalized to maintain a narrative. In essence, the article reveals the layers of complex social engineering which information warfare has become in the modern day.
