Journal Summary Two

editing-skills-checklist-for-mapping-1-2Throughout these past few weeks in this course, I have learned a lot about the common mistakes that I make throughout my essays. Some of the common mistakes I have made are comma splices, shifts in person, and usually a weak thesis statement. Outside of my usual mistakes, I have maintained keeping a smooth flow to my essays, and have been able to stick to the point of my essay. Every now and then I will have a random mistake like a parallel structure or a fragment but progress has been made.

I received just under a seventy for my grade on my midterm and I received a one as my grade for my course placement essay. I’ve grown a lot from that point in my writing, mainly due to actually acknowledging where I’m going wrong. When I originally took the placement essay, I was very bad at transitioning because I didn’t know how to start or end my paragraphs. After I realized that, I started to pay more attention to where my paragraphs should end, so that it will be easier to transition to the next and I’ll stay on point with each one. As for my thesis statement, it’s a work in progress.

As I move forward towards wrapping up my final essay, I hope to improve on the errors I keep making. I plan to work on my thesis statement, check for shifts in person, and also look for other grammatical errors. Those are my ideas for improvement. The final exam is approaching and really all I can do is study from the essays I have written. Most importantly, pay attention to detail and learn from my mistakes.
