Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs outlines five levels of human motivation, from basic survival to personal fulfillment. I’ve been thinking about how technology plays a role in meeting each of these needs in my daily life, and here are just a few ways. For my physiological needs, technology helps me meet basic needs through convenience. I use Uber Eats when I don’t have time to cook, and my smartwatch tracks my sleep patterns to help improve rest. Even my weather app helps me plan my day. For my safety, my home security apps, two-factor authentication, and health trackers are just a few examples. I also rely on online banking for secure money management. For my social life, technology helps me stay connected to loved ones, and my online communities, as well as gaming platforms, help me build friendships beyond geographical boundaries. Lastly, for personal growth, technology enables me to learn and create in so many ways. I’ve taken online courses to grow new skills and have used so many tools to ensure my educational journey is successful. Technology is deeply integrated into modern life and supports each level of Maslow’s Hierarchy in powerful ways. It not only helps us survive but also to connect, grow, and thrive in ways that were not possible before.
