Introduction & Career Focus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My name is Joana Camp, and I\u2019m a BS OTS Training Specialist major with minors in Psychology and English (Technical Writing). My work sits at the intersection of sociotechnical systems, workflow design, and public\u2011sector modernization. I\u2019m especially drawn to understanding how people experience complex systems \u2014 and what happens when those systems become fragmented, confusing, or hard to navigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of my academic and professional energy goes toward reducing administrative burden, improving coordination across services, and designing workflows that help institutions build trust with the communities they serve. Long-term, I hope to contribute to more human\u2011centered approaches to housing, education, and public service systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Post\u2011Graduation Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After graduating from ODU, I plan to pursue a PhD in Human\u2011Centered Design & Engineering, focusing on sociotechnical systems, implementation design, and public\u2011sector innovation. I\u2019m interested in building tools, workflows, and communication systems that make critical services more accessible, coordinated, and sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internship Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Virginia Micro-Internship \u2013 TLC NextGen Consulting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In June 2026, I completed a competitive Virginia Micro\u2011Internship sponsored by the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V\u2011TOP) and administered through Parker Dewey. I served as a Knowledge Management Consultant for TLC NextGen Consulting, a SWaM\u2011certified firm specializing in organizational readiness, capability development, and strategic transformation for public\u2011sector agencies and mission\u2011driven organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This wasn\u2019t a hypothetical assignment. I was brought in to audit a real corporate knowledge base and rebuild it into a unified, scalable system. My primary responsibility was to transform a fragmented collection of documents into a structured, searchable taxonomy the firm could use immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Contributions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Resource Audit<\/strong> \u2014 Cataloged 60+ corporate assets, including consulting methodologies, sales proposals, contract templates, and internal operational files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxonomy Design<\/strong> \u2014 Built a 7\u2011tier classification system that organized materials across core functions: Sales, Client Delivery, Legal, Marketing, Training, Operations, and Technical Systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical Interface Inventory<\/strong> \u2014 Expanded the project scope by auditing 40+ Work Asset Management (WAM) and Mobile Work Management (MWM) system integrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge Base Architecture<\/strong> \u2014 Designed a four\u2011layer framework using Google Drive for storage and Notion as the centralized navigation and search dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gap Analysis & Strategic Roadmap<\/strong> \u2014 Identified recurring operational vulnerabilities and authored a three\u2011horizon strategic plan (0\u201390 days, 3\u201312 months, 12+ months) to guide long\u2011term scalability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflection on My Experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Where the System Was Breaking Down<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest challenges was the firm\u2019s information retrieval friction. They had strong intellectual capital \u2014 but it was scattered across tools, folders, and naming conventions. That fragmentation created a \u201cbandwidth tax\u201d on team members who needed to locate assets quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My goal was to reduce cognitive load and make the system feel intuitive. By building a logical taxonomy and a clean Notion interface, I focused on making critical workflows and technical maps instantly accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
