Cyber technology has created opportunities for workplace deviance by making it easier for people to take part in deviant behavior digitally. This happens in many workplaces, although many fields are more suspectable to having a cyber-attack or cyber-crime take place. The healthcare and education fields are more vulnerable to cyber-attacks as they do not have a set defense against them.
Hacking and data breaches can happen at any workplace, especially ones where private information is very important to the organization. Within the healthcare system, a vast amount of information is stored in some type of computer and patient information is typically sent through technology. Cyber-criminals would be attracted to the social security numbers that are stored in the system to do many fraudulent things such as stealing money or stealing valuable information, this is a major problem because it leads to may harmful things to the person that has been hacked.
An example of a workplace deviance could be an employee who is denied a raise or bonus, so they go online and criticize their employer or the company that they work for. They could also go online and try to attack their company by cyber-attacks and try to destroy, disrupt, or steal from that workplace. Another workplace deviance is when an employee avoids their task an goes online shopping, surfing the web, social networking, and other activities.
There are many ways that workplace deviance can take place a great way to avoid that from happening is to have the employer to track the computer that they are using to be able to determine if the employee is committing a workplace deviance.
