There are several motives in regarding to making sense and impacting more than others. First making the least amount of sense is boredom. Boredom makes the least amount of sense to me because studies show that there is usually always a motive to why somebody commits a crime especially in cybersecurity, there must be a reason to why they are committing such an act. The second least important motive is recognition. Recognition doesn’t make sense to be a motive to me because when someone does a cyber-crime, statistics show that they want to stay hidden and not get caught with doing the wrongful act. The third least important motive is the entertainment motive. The entertainment motive is only understandable if somebody is psychologically indifferent and gets joy from doing harm to others. While these cases are rarer, there are still people who do this and think it’s a game to mess with people’s lives and information. The fourth least important motive is revenge. Revenge is significant in many cases because somebody gets fired from a cyber-job and they want to get back at the company for firing them. This can also be a case where somebody has a high animosity towards somebody and just want to see that other person fail with what they are doing.
The fifth motive is more important because it has to do with money. A lot of cyber-crime involves a wrongful act done to gain money. They will commit several other crimes that have an end goal to gain the most money they can off the crime. The sixth motive is political motive. This motive is incredibly important because a lot of the political warfare is done by trashing on the other person and many times there are cyber-crimes done to increase the pole to gain the lead in a race. There are also instances where they may even delete anything another person is doing so; they didn’t have any information for their election. In my opinion the most important motive must be for multiple reasons. There are many reasons why somebody commits a wrongful act, which combines all the above reasons. For instance, somebody could have gotten fired, so they steal money through that company to get revenge for firing them.
