The impact of digital literacy and online privacy concerns continue to rise as technology continues to grow. The social sciences play a key role in cyber security by moderating the actions taken by individuals that do these harmful acts to cause another person stress and loss. Digital literacy is the capacity to be able to research, analyze, organize, generate, and to evaluate data. It is essential that human behavior is taken into account when trying to understand what influences cybersecurity awareness.
In the first hypothesis, Musaddag Elarayah of King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia states “copyright positively influences cybersecurity behavior”. Adhering and being able to understand copyright laws that regulate each lawful utilization of digital content is a crucial role of digital literacy, especially in cybersecurity practices. By having the copyright knowledge, the user’s ability to dismiss unlawful actions through websites or emails are increased and that in turn can allow the person to be more secure in actions. Having solid knowledge of the copyright laws enhances responsible behavior in cybersecurity. With data being collected it is important that groups maintain truthfulness and a non-biased action when collecting data.
The study taken by 235 of people in different cities in Saudi Arabia with different levels of education suggested that people with higher knowledge of digital literacy had a higher understanding of cybersecurity awarenesses. The reason that this is important is because in class, we have discussed the importance of having cybersecurity knowledge, as it allows more individuals and companies to remain safe and protected against loss. With the data shown, it is understandable that the more people that gain knowledge about cybersecurity procedures, the more the world can be protected digitally from cyber-hacks and severe loss of information. By learning the behavior, phycological, and social aspects of individuals we can determine and teach each other ways to incorporate protection against such harmful acts.
