My name is India Henry. I grew up in Franklin, Tennessee where I was exposed to coding in elementary school; although, coding today looks much different than coding did over a decade ago, my passion for programming and problem solving started here! I continued to teach myself Python and JavaScript until high school, where I took Coding I, Coding II, and AP Computer Science Principles which taught me Python, JavaScript, introductory C, and app development. It was here that I learned I had a passion for more than just programming and I believed that cybersecurity would give me the best chance at learning about the world of computers from multiple lenses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During university, I decided to major in Cybersecurity and minor in Political Science; I think it is important to integrate the two when it comes to policymaking for cybersecurity because both require nuance of each other in order to work effectively. My time at Old Dominion has taught me many things: operating systems, proactivity, computer networking, the importance of teamwork, etc. Being in an interdisciplinary major has allowed me to explore how different disciplines work together, or even how they may directly oppose each other; my favorite thing about being in an interdisciplinary major is the ability to research topics across disciplines that do not typically interact with each other. Researching has since become a hobby of mine! I have also started to reconnect with programming in my free time, and I love the duality my major allows me to have!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the future, I would love to gain as much experience as possible in cybersecurity, rather that be in network security or policy! It will be interesting to see how the field changes and I look forward to continuing to learn and adapt to it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
