Week 15 – Journal Entry 15

After watching Davin Teo’s TedTalk, digital forensics investigators are able to integrate psychology and sociology to analyze digital evidence in criminal or cyber cases, ensuring ethical guidelines like privacy and consent are followed. Legal compliance, informed by criminology, governs evidence collection. Techniques from social sciences aid in information extraction, while understanding human-computer interaction and cultural contexts is crucial. Forensic psychology adds depth to understanding motivations in cybercrimes, enhancing an investigation’s thoroughness and societal awareness. Davin’s path from working in accounting to digital forensics I think highlights how he was able to understand the importance of the data that has to be protected amongst IT teams. Funny enough he ended up getting placed into it at a time where not much emphasis was being placed on digital forensics long ago, not having an idea of how important it’d actually become.
