Week 3 – Journal Entry

After visiting PrivacyRights.org to check public information about data breaches, researchers might use the information given to determine what industries are more likely to become a target and where the breaches occurred. By doing this, researchers are able to determine which states see a higher turnout in breaches and who can be most vulnerable. If a state tends to experience a lower number of breaches this could mean for attackers that specific state is more of a target as there might not be as many people on the defense side of things as opposed to states that experience a higher amount of breaches. What is the common factor for the states at the top? They have higher populations. With this in mind researchers can better determine in what parts of the country systems can be hardened to provide defend attacks with less to work with.
