I think that his career path was a pretty frequent path to being in digital forensics during that time. Computers were still just being introduced and vulnerabilities weren’t thought of as much then, meaning there more than likely weren’t college courses to teach the material, it was all done through self-teaching. Now that we have all of these different IT and Cybersecurity type degree paths available, it is more likely for someone with a degree to have a tech job, rather than someone who has learned as they went along. He mentioned how he just followed the work with what sounded interesting, which is what most people should do. When people are doing a job, they actually enjoy, they are going to put more effort into it. He likes the challenge that comes with digital forensic investigations and all of the problem-solving it entails which is a good trait for anyone in the field.
