ePortfolio entry #6
How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Workplace deviance is described as the deliberate desire to cause harm to an organization or workplace. With the implementation of so many technological devices such as laptops and PCs it has been made much more easier for employees to cause harm to a organization once they feel that they were unfairly fired or mistreated. One way cyber technology created the opportunity for workplace deviance is that if someone is terrminated and decides to “lash out” so to say, they can easily go in and delete and erase everything that they may have admin rights to on that networks causing trouble to everyone who needs that material in order to be able to work. Not just deleteing but they can also just expose the material to the public eye who has no buisness in seeing this sensitive material in the first place. Actions like this can leave an entire organization in danger and in threat of a breach in the network due to all of the sesitive information being leaked to the public. When sensitive information is leaked it makes it much more easier for cyberattackers to get even more than what they wrtr looking for. For example, with acts of workplace deviance as described, this can give hackers opportunites to obtain access to addresses, social security numbers, credit card information, etc.
