Week 4 – Journal Entry
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a model for understanding the motivations for human behavior. This set of motivations consists of 5 types : Self actualization, Esteem, Love and Belonging, Safety needs, and Physiological Needs. One way I believe that Maslow’s hierarchy of needs relates to some of my experiences with technology is the motivation of safety needs. Safety needs ais a motivation that compiles of aspects such as personnel security, employment, resources, health, and property. Personnel security is extremely important when working in a computer based environment especially when you are liable to keep a business operating properly on the IT side of things. Many times when users get locked of accounts they have to call the help desk and verify that it is them to protect the users information and allowing a company breach. Verifying users allows companies to prevent any unsolicited activities from occurring which is why Maslow’s hierarchy of needs can correlate directly to some technical experiences for most technically inclined users.
