One way that computers have made the world safer goes hand-in-hand with a way they have also made it less safe.  Computers allow for users to save passwords that they use on different accounts, which helps people to be able to create longer, more secure passwords and not have to worry about trying to remember it because the computer will do it for us and we can keep our accounts safer.  Another way computers have made the world safer is with defense technology for war.  Back in the days of World War II, technology was more primitive and we did not have the radar and missile detection technology we have today.  In that way, the world is somewhat safer because soldiers can know when they are being fired upon and from where. A third way computers have made the world safer is in the healthcare field.  Computers like life support are often used to keep people alive when they are in critical condition.  By monitoring vitals closely and being able to alert doctors and nurses for any minute changes in the wrong direction, computers are able to save lives.

One way computers have made the world less safe is that people are now more inclined to keep a great deal of sensitive personal information in one spot:  on their machine.  This means that if an attacker is able to compromise a person’s account on one website, they might be able to get to other information that is associated with that account more easily, leaving the person vulnerable to a wide range of harm.  Another bad thing that has come with computers is the ability to do physical harm to other people in a variety of ways.  Just as defense systems have become more advance, so have attacking methods, meaning that with the press of a button, missiles can be sent to any location on the planet. The third way computers have made the world a less safe place is that there is such a great deal of access to information.  Anybody can go on Google and search somebody up and find out different things about them: what school they go to, their birthdate, their age, etc.  This omnipresent access to information can be dangerous in the wrong hands and we have already seen that happen before.
