I am interested in cybersecurity technology for many reasons really, but I’ll highlight the main ones.  First and foremost, I want to be a part of the changing landscape of the world as we continue to move towards a world that is more focused on technology and what it can be used for.  I want to be able to contribute my own ideas and my own work to the field so that one day I might be able to look back and be proud that I was a part of something that was bigger than myself and could be used to help people.  The second reason that comes to mind is that I have taken interest in the cyber world since early on in high school.  I am not sure if I am allowed to say this, but I used to use the command prompt on the laptops the school gave us and get into the school infrastructure and mess with people sometimes.  I didn’t change essential things because I was too scared of being caught, but I did things that were easily reversible.  When I was going into college, I went in for chemical engineering before I realized I really don’t like physics, and that’s when I decided to change my major to cybersecurity.  I realized that if I, as a 15-year-old kid could get into the school’s system, there are so many more people with so much more experience and skill than me, and they would be trying to get into systems like that and change things and cause damage that actually matters.  I want to be one of the people on the other side of that, who helps companies and organizations to protect themselves from loss and protects consumer data that people entrust to these companies on a daily basis.  I’d like to help places like hospitals or nonprofit organizations who are just trying to do good but might not have the same level of cybersecurity.
