Cybertechnology impacts interactions between offenders and victims by closing the gap between them. In the past, if a criminal committed a crime the left victims in critical condition or traumatized they would usually be separated as much as possible even in court. In today’s society though, The Internet has allowed for offenders to harass, threaten, and terrify their victim almost anonymously through social media, email, and other digital forms of communication. This is not the only way that criminals can ruin the lives of their victims. Hackers that are able to gain entrance to corporate software and digitally access employee or customer information could it sell it for profit where it can fraudulently exploited for monetary gain or used to form fake identities of people which in turn ruins reputations and credibility and may he even cause innocent people to go to jail, and they will not know they are victims till usually days after the crime has already occurred. The constant potential risk of harm and danger from those unknown to a victim from merely just having a digital presence is enough to cause hysteria. This problem can leave victims feeling paranoid and defenseless usually leading them to things like the witness protection program or some form of protection detail until the culprit has been caught. Most people feel like this cannot happen to them, that they cannot be exploited or have their life stolen because they are not notable or do not feel like a suitable target, but being average allows for criminals to blend in as they can commit their crimes and go unnoticed or enough time to cover their tracks or find a suitable scapegoat to hide their tracks. This is why offenders rarely target high profile targets unless it is for political gain or if its apart of an agenda.
