Cyber technology is rapidly advancing both our collective personal and business lives as a whole. The problem with new technology means there is people looking for new ways to exploit it. My father who is a program manager for a company called “Battelle”, recently told me that he had to fire somebody for installing crypto mining software on a government computer, obviously that’s a big no no. For some people though they, despite knowing better, they cannot resist the opportunity for self-gain (in whatever capacity that is) even at the expense of their career or way of life. These new technologies create more get rich quick schemes and can certainly sway people into attempting them even though it is not worth it.

Deviancy has been around since the dawn of man. If you believe in Christianity, you know that Adam bit the apple even though he knew he should not have. With that in mind it does not take much to push the average joe one way or another when in it comes to being deviant or law-abiding. So what is it that pushes people over the edge? These knew technologies allows for potential deviants to commit their criminal acts without leaving a trace and behind a wall deniability. The ability to forge and create false alibi’s makes it extremely difficult to pin digital crimes to someone in a concrete manner.

The natural human deviancy combined with the increased ability to get away with crime provided by technological advances that is how you get increased deviancy. How does that apply to the workplace though. The workplace provides a cover as usually there is not an a direct association to anyone employee and in order to access network data it usually requires a warrant to go through the whole legal process. This allows for a criminal to cover the tracks or if that does not work then to flee the scene of the crime.
