Cybersecurity: is the practice of proactively defending computers, mobile devices, electronic systems, data, servers, and networks from malicious attacks. It is also knows as information technology security or electronic information security. The term applies in a variety of contexts, from business to information computing, and can be divided into many different disciplines and careers.

Major 1: Criminal Justice is the system of law enforcement that is directly involved in apprehending, prosecuting, defending, sentencing, and punishing those who are suspected or convicted of criminal offenses. Cybersecurity and Information Technology has become such a big part of law enforcement that it even has its own divisions in government departments and local police departments. Cybersecurity is a key part of the “Defending” definition of criminal justice as it involves the protection of personal data from those without the best of intentions. (Google Definitions)

Major 2: Management/Information systems: A management information system is an information system used for decision-making, and for the coordination, control, analysis, and visualization of information in an organization. The study of the management information systems involves people, processes and technology in an organizational context. Cybersecurity can be crucial here to outline potential gaps or security risks on the home or business network or infrastructure.

Major 3: Computer Science is the study of computation, automation, information, and the ways humans interact. Cybersecurity is a major component of this as with technology evolving everyday new threats surface and professionals need to be able to understand and adapt to potential threats so they can create plans to safeguard against hackers exploiting them in the future. Major 4: Computer/Software engineering is a systematic engineering approach to software development. A software engineer is a person who applies the principles of software engineering to design, develop, maintain, test, and evaluate computer software. The term programmer is sometimes used as a synonym, but may also lack connotations of engineering education or skills. Cybersecurity can be useful here to help test and expose weaknesses in a physical or software programming fault so that it can be addressed and fixed promptly before the system’s activation.
