Entry 1: How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?

Apart from personally being a potential victim, both of my majors, business and history relate to cybersecurity technology. If I choose the business path, then it is inevitable that I will be immersed in the digital world via email, websites, online finances, etc. This means that it’s imperative that I know how to securely navigate the web to ensure that I do not become a victim of a cyber crime. This will allow me to do my job smoothly or even run a successful business of my own. Developers and programmers play an important role in cybersecurity and use business analytics and marketing as the backbone of many tools. These online tools contain valuable and vulnerable data that need to be protected. On the other hand, learning about business can give an understanding on the importance of cybersecurity to these businesses and consumers. This is, however, just one path. If I were to pursue my history degree, the degree for which this class is a requirement, and I hopefully become a future professor, then I will likely do tons of research that will be stored in the cloud or on the web. Conversely, in learning contemporary history, you get an insight on the rise of cybersecurity and how it has ingrained itself in society. Cybersecurity also has been a main player in multiple historic events such as watergate, the Snowden leak, and more. Academics and many working people use technology in their everyday life which means that cybersecurity needs to also be discussed.
