(A/N: I had the hardest time finding my sources again as I was stupid and didn’t save them on the word document and instead clicked don’t save…. so, I hope that these are the ones that I used when I turned this paper in… these sources still work for this essay. )
Computing and counting have both been ingrained in the brains of humans for thousands of years. Both of these were combined within the last century to make something called coding. This is the language only known to computers and those who make programs for them. It is a semi-complicated process to learn and retain the information. Computers are headed down a path that could lead to some serious complications in the future (History of Computers).
The first serious problem is that webcams are becoming more and more hackable. No matter how many people try to prevent it from happening, some extremely smart people can hack into them whether the computer is on or not. This causes a lot of people to panic, as one can imagine. There have been several instances, which have been on social media and on the news, where people have reported people hacking into their laptop webcams while they were sleeping or getting dressed. A word of caution would be to shut the laptop lid when done with the computer for the day. If it is a desktop, then turn the webcam around or cover it with an opaque material. This also goes for when getting dressed, for that could be recorded and sent throughout the internet (Kumparak).
Speaking of the internet, the common people do not know about hackers being able to hack into cars (Stempel). It is true, the proof was in a news article somewhere in the past year or so. Only cars that were made in the early 2000s are affected by this, as any vehicle made prior to this Era is not run by a computer. To ward off this tactic from causing hysteria in America, the military is currently trying their hardest to deflect this. They are doing this by using their own vehicles as test dummies (Boatman).
Hacking has been a cause of distress all over the world and there is absolutely nothing that humanity can do to defend itself. With the drones now popping up everywhere, privacy issues are coming out of thin air and exposing people to the harsh reality of this world. Humans being scared is not good because every time something like this has happened, the species as a whole freak out and this is why believing in taking precautionary measure is a must for the future generations (Stempel). This might scare some people, but it is better to be aware of what is happening in this world than to be completely blinded by a wall that was built around humanity.
In conclusion, computers and people have come a long way and that is scary in itself. One can only imagine the horrors of the future if people do not step up to the plate. The people in the computer science department are good people and will help combat all of this negativity that is placed without consent onto the continent of North America.
