After reviewing the articles related to each unique motive for cybercrime, I considered them according to their believability and impact. First, money appears to be the most natural incentive, given financial gain is the primary motivator for many large-scale cybercrimes such as ransomware and fraud. Political motives follow closely after, given the emergence of hacktivism, in which hackers are frequently motivated by social or political concerns. Third is retaliation, with actions such as revenge porn highlighting the psychological and/or human motivations underlying some cybercrimes. Recognition is ranked fourth, as many hackers desire celebrity through high-profile operations. Entertainment is ranked fifth because certain crimes are committed as a result of data scraping or online challenges, even when the aim is not hostile. Given the complexity of this purpose, many factors come in sixth place. Finally, boredom is placed seventh; while worrying, it frequently leads to less serious forms of cybercrime.
