Old Dominion offers a lot of majors. Some of the majors I think relates to cybersecurity is informations technology, computer science, computer engineering, and criminal justice. IT (informations technology) security refers to protecting data and information systems from unauthorized access. It involves implementing processes that prevent the misuse, modification, or theft of sensitive company information. You can think of cyber security as a subset of IT security. While cyber security deals with protecting data from internet hacks. IT security is the overarching process that covers how company data is handled daily. Computer science is a broad field that involves the study of computer and computing. Cyber security can be considered a new subfield of computer science since cyber security specialists require a deep understanding of computers and networks to analyze and prevent data breaches and attacks, monitor systems, and create solutions. Engineers are crucial in protecting sensitive data agaisnt an ever-evolving array of threats by applying their skills in areas like systems architecture , machine learning, modeling, and reverse engineering. They play a vital role in building a more secure future for technologies like self- driving cars and connected medical devices. Computer engineering is the heart of any given cyber security organization. Almost any cyber security organization that needs protection are some type of building with infrastructure. The fine line between criminal justice and cyber security has become more and more blurred as time has gone by and technology has become more advanced. The Internet provides a certain level of disassociation and anonymity to such a crime and can be committed from the comfort of one’s own home. In the digital world cybersecurity pros become like the law enforcers of the traditional criminal justice system. They are the front-line defenders against cybercrime. They have the ability to instinctively identify ways of undermining or compromising systems by using those systems in unexpected ways.
