#1 Boredom: Most people wouldn’t expect this to be number #1 but it is suprising common in today’s world and with all the Programs and scripts availible nowadays even a script kiddie can succeed in causing serious damage and since media outlets usually only cover the 1% aka Large Scale Cybercrime, the other 99% is only talked about in very scarce places

#2 For Money: Self-Explanatory, Even if the motive is political it could also be done politically for money most attacks nowadays come attached with some form of ransom that most companies can’t afford to not pay.

#3 Political: All of the cyberattacks conducted nowadays are conducted by countries/Nation State Threat Actors to spread their agendas, infiltrate other countries hierarchies, or to sabotage. Basically, Each Country trying to become #1.

#4 Revenge: It could be a person or company, although not as common as it used to be, this still happens quit often

#5 Entertainment: Some hackers honestly just love trolling people through various ways from hacking in online games to hacking real world displays just to mess with people

#6 Recognition: more common among script kiddies who feel the need to prove themselves to their superiors, which ironically usually ends their careers much faster its like telling someone you committed a crime

#7 Multiple Reasons: Some have other motives that aren’t listed.
