After receiving back my first essay, My Transition from High School to College, I was very pleased with the final grade. However, if I didn’t turn in a rough draft before the due date, I would not have received as good of a grade. For example, I made a few comma splice mistakes throughout my essay that affected the sentence structure and didn’t allow for my sentences to flow smoothly. My text contained two or more sentence structure errors, which rated me a 3/4 in the clarity/syntax catagory. I tend to be careful and very good at placing commas throughout my papers but I made a few too many mistakes this time. Also, I had a few areas of my sentences that needed semi-colons instead of commas, which caused fragments in my sentences. Other than comma splices, I had a few misspelled words. Nonetheless, when I was writing my final essay one, I fixed all my misplaced commas, which helped my paper flow easily throughout each paragraph and helped my sentence structure. Other than clarity and syntax, my Purpose category was graded 4/4 for having a direct and advanced thesis, Content was rated 4/4 for having fully developed discussion points, and Conventions graded 4/4 for excluding spelling errors. In addition, peer review helped me catch some mistakes or ideas that benefited my introduction, body, and conclusion. Lastly, my rough draft helped me a lot towards my final grade just because I revised my mistakes, and replaced words that would have cost me more points from my final grade. I will continue to do this so that I won’t make the same mistakes that could possibly cost me with upcoming essays. Ending this essay with a 94/100 was well deserved in my opinion because not only did I do a rough draft, but I spent more time than others in order to get the grade I really wanted.
