My Thoughts on Cybersecurity
My favorite part of Cybersecurity is the sheer amount of specializations and disciplines that go into creating the field. The only other field I can think of with such breadth is the medical sciences. As someone who gets bored fairly quickly I appreciate the well of knowledge that has been built for this career path I’ve chosen as it gives me an infinite pool of things for me to learn, be it on my own or from others. The community is both welcoming and suspicious at once and makes for interesting company. Huge conventions such as DEFCON are amazing and provide tons of tidbits of information, be it empirical data or anecdotal information from fieldwork.
Although currently most of my firsthand experience and knowledge in the field has be through my time in the Virginia Army National Guard doing networking on Cisco devices. I find that I enjoy the hands on aspect of diving into a network and getting things to work in a critical field environment. The social aspect of availability of the network means my work is what gives others the ability to do their jobs.
