Dear Future Self
I’m sure you have had a difficult semester. Even though this will have probably been hard semester, I know that you will have worked extremely hard, and still have a high GPA. I am writing to remind you what you are most interested in studying in Biology. We know that we eventually want to go to medical school, but up until last summer, you did not know what you wanted to specialize in. I think I have narrowed it down to the perfect field, endocrinology.
After working in the emergency department over the summer, I decided that part of medicine would not be right for me. It wasn’t until I studied the endocrine system in Biology last semester, I decided this is what I want to concentrate my studies in. I am so fascinated in how the body uses hormones to imitate and terminate essential body functions.
I hope to go into more details about how hormones are made, and what happens when the body produces too little, or too much of a certain type of hormone. I also want to learn, in more detail how the pancreas knows when to release more insulin or glucagon.
Anyways, I hope you have an excellent semester, and do your best to remember everything you can in cell biology, since this is essentially your future.
Sincerely,
Past Self
