“Video can provide a welcome change of pace in a presentation.” (Reynolds p. 133) During this time of Covid19 with its lock-downs, shutdowns, and shelter in place we need a change of pace. This is why we are seeing an increase in the use of various social medias. Society has taken on an even greater interest of seeing themselves, family and friends on camera. Reynolds(p. 133) also says, “ Do something emotionally relevant…to regain attention.” You have to agree that there is so much relevant topics of discussion everywhere-from our neighborhoods, to our cities and to our nation. What a great avenue by which to share with our neighbors- a video. Video recording has helped during this pandemic to help loved ones celebrate the birth of new life and the passing of life. It has also allowed for loved ones to share their final goodbyes when a neighbor is near.
Besides, using the camera on our phones, Zoom is now at the forefront of keeping family, business and educational institutions connected. Families use it to celebrate weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and deaths. It is used by the entertainment industry to come into our homes, while schools of various levels are using it to virtually educate our world. I have used Zoom to teach as well as to collaborate with team mates. It allows the students to participate with animated symbols, as well as to write their responses. Lessons can be recorded and shared with others.
In addition to Zoom, is its cousin Loom! I couldn’t help it! Loom is being used by over “over 4 million people across 90,000 companies.” Wow-It is a recording monster! Loom offers free signup, with upgrade available, giving its customers the opportunity to video tape messages, instead of emailing or meeting. Educators are using it to share messages with coworkers, parents and students. Loom has been used to quickly record messages to be shared with students or colleagues. It gives you the opportunity to share background information as you are place discreetly on the page.
In closing, video recording is a blessing in disguise for so many individuals. It gives family and friends the opportunity to see each other, while industries can carry on with business as usual. The Pandemic-Covid19 has us on lock down, but videos get us out.
