- How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and -infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?
The Development of cyber policies are important, considering the regulate all aspects of digital exchange. With cyber crime at an all time high it is time for companies to begin creating plans that protect themselves and users. Maybe go over the plans that are already in place and see if new policies are needed or make revisions to the current policies. The reason it is sometimes hard is because everything is constantly changing or evolving if you will. It is also sometimes hard to make these policies if the creator is not as polished in the field. Even with someone who is highly decorated will not be able to know what is to come. There are always new forms of attacks that were not previously accounted for. Meaning a lot of the time best judgment will be needed. Considering that much of the time attacks come from human error. All in all companies probably should go in understanding that an attack is probably still likely. Employees need to understand best password management practices. The policy should outline the best methods to creating an effective password. Companies also should limit the internet access or just monitor employee computers. Most of what an employee will be or should be doing so invading privacy should not be a big issue. All in all a good policy should provide info on things such as management goals, data classification, consequences and anything else deemed important. Policy writers should pay close attention considering this could seal the fate of the company.
2. How does cyber technology impact interactions between offenders and victims?
In my opinion technology not only makes it easier to commit crimes or harassment, but it also makes it a bit more scary. Considering a person can say anything about you and now it is all over the internet in seconds is heavy to process. As far as attacks go, a person can be under attack and never even know until it is too late. As far as bullying, when a kid is bullied at school only the kids in that school hear. When someone bullies you online it could be never ending. While I think it makes it worse I think it is also preferred. I can turn my computer off and get away from the harassment. Of course you don’t forget but at least you can end it. When these things occur in person they cannot be stopped. A person robbing you at gunpoint for cash is different from being hacked. There are pros and cons to both scenarios.
