Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.
One of the ethical issues that arises when storing electronic information is privacy and confidentiality. Privacy and confidentiality is basically making sure the information is on a need to know. Only certain individuals have access to this information and they will not all share the same level of access usually. For example sometimes you may call a Healthcare company to obtain some information. The person who is on the phone may tell you they are not able to see this information. This can be frustrating, but I have come to realize it is to protect us. The less people able to obtain information the less chance of misuse. Another ethical issue would be security breaches. This issue involves the risk of having information obtained without the consent from the owner of the data. This can happen in a variety of ways varying from hacks to an employee simply not logging out. Whether it be external or internal this could cause major issues. System implementation and data inaccuracy are also two ethical issues that arise. Data inaccuracies. Integrity is meant to assure that data is inputted correctly and accurately. This may sound minor, but imagine a hospital inputting the wrong allergies for a patient. This could lead to bodily harm or even death.
