My name is Donta Council. I am a third-year doctoral student at Old Dominion University in the School of Public Service majoring in Public Administration and Policy. A few of my goals while in this program are to: gain critical research skills (both quantitative and qualitative) to assess and evaluate emerging concerns in the field, explore both academic and practitioner aspects of the discipline, and ultimately to collaborate with colleagues to not only be a consumer of knowledge, but also a producer.
Some of my professional backgrounds include higher education/student affairs and nonprofit management. I plan to use my practical experiences to both inform my research, but also to bridge gaps in the academy and world of practice.
I am currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the School of Public Service.
Ph.D. – Old Dominion University, Anticipated May 2019
Master of Public Administration – Jacksonville State University, December 2014
B.A., Political Science – Old Dominion University, August 2012
As an emerging scholar, my research interests are in disaster hazard and mitigation, nonprofit management, criminal justice policy, public participation and social justice & equity.
