The storing of a user’s information can be deemed as ethical depending upon the circumstances. In some cases it’s needed so that an electronic footprint is left and people are able to go back and re-access that information.
A few of the places I think of this being ethical are going to be your employment, school, financial institutions, and medical facilities. These places have little to no malicious intent when it comes to a person’s information, and are usually needed to ensure the person’s safety and well being.
The employment you work at most likely will run a background and criminal background check to ensure who they are hiring isn’t going to negatively impact their institution, the information that they have is more than likely going to be stored within the system so that the employment can then reference it in a time of need.
Schools usually store the information of the student, things such as contact details for people authorized to pick up the student are kept there. Along with things that the student is allergic to, so the school nurse can be sure to keep the student safe.
Financial institutions are going to have your SSN, your ID, ID number, address, and phone number all on file. While financial institutions are at high risk when it comes to breaches and physical break-ends, the information is still stored at the highest level of security to ensure the members safety.
Medical Facilities are going to have all information personable to that patient. Everything listed above plus all medical records that pertain to the patient, the information is needed so the doctors are able to fill prescriptions and send notes to the home regarding any type of payments and information that the patient needs to know.
