When I began writing my essays in my UNIV 150 class I believed I was a great writer and there was not much I could learn more. I was very wrong, because when I received my first essay grade I was not pleased. My most concerning mistake that led to the failure of my writing placement exam was the comma splice. My UNIV 150 professor helped the class with this problem with a lesson that gave examples and told you exactly how to fix comma splices. Since then my writing has improved with better grammar and the way I word my essays is more smoothly. A problem I have that I still need to improve for English 110C is the use of cliché’s. I have always used them through-out grade school because I believed it made my essays look better. I did not know it was hurting my essay. I just need to pay attention to what I type and think it through even if it does sound great.
