The media holds an overarching influence among society and therefore, their perception on cybersecurity impacts how society views it. It creates an unrealistic view of the true dangers of cyberattacks and does not address key aspects like target hardening. Also I think that it may not be a heavily pushed narrative because although cybersecurity plays a huge role in our technologically based society it is viewed as a victimless crime because it is committed usually from behind a screen in comparison to the more idealistic crimes. However, media coverage can shape societal attitudes towards online behavior, influencing risk awareness and mitigation strategies.
