The effect of cybertechnology is interesting because, with social media and many accessible online platforms, people are much more likely to run into an offender and have an interaction with them. Many people probably do and don’t even realize it. Many people get random messages from others on Instagram trying to work their way into some kind of relationship and those gullible enough are usually kids. Many offenders that are online searching for victims prey on children because of their ignorance of online safety. However this has also caused much younger generations to be more aware of dangerous situations over the internet. Many people just have fun chats and for really young kids it should be monitored but usually, it’s kids being kids. Should an offender wrap up a victim and get them to meet it is much easier to track them than it used to be. Oddly it is easier to catch offenders now than it was before social media became popular since there are chat logs and police can trace connections. Cybertechnology has made it more likely to run into an offender but also easier to catch them. There is an offender registry and should an offender try to entice a victim the victim could tell many people about it and it spread very fast however this is more in local areas, the point is that people have easy access to tell others about the incident or interaction. There was a situation with a popular youtube known as EDP 445 who was found having online chat logs with a minor and eventually was lured to a meet-up spot by the fake victim who said they were 13. He was then caught on video and has tried to clear his name multiple times, thankfully to no avail considering this was not the first time he had this kind of evidence brought against him. From this example though you can see how easy it is to get in contact with someone like that and to the same extent how easy it is to catch someone.
