How computers make the world safer:
- Computers first add the safety of tracking, overseeing, and managing many internet processes, allowing us to monitor things like our bank accounts to check and ensure that nothing has been stolen. Also being able to use computers to access news easily makes it much easier to see what you want to need to see, such as world headlines and also very small local things that could be potentially dangerous such as a record of common crimes in the area. Being able to keep track of crime rates is also very helpful in deciding where to move to or where to live when you come to that point in your life. Computers are a main part of keeping us well informed and that keeps us much safer from both criminals and police as some places have much less obvious laws that could you could accidentally break so this wealth of information can also keep you out of legal trouble if used correctly.
- Computers can download many games and other distractions and this is a weird argument to make but occupying minds and having significantly younger people satisfied playing games in their own house means there are fewer people that are out committing crimes that could lead to potentially dangerous consequences.
- Computers, more specifically phones have GPS capabilities that could help greatly in leading people in the right direction so as to not end up in the wrong areas and potentially stranded if their car were to break down or run out of gas
How Computers make the world less safe:
- Law-abiding citizens gain much if not most information from computers but so do criminals. Criminals learn how to be criminals from the internet and there is no way to change that as it is not a matter of the information released but of the intention of the viewer. Information such as times and locations for large gatherings, easier access to buying weapons online(mostly melee weapons but some guns as well), and just the entirety of the dark web mean there is a lot of danger to be had on computers.
- Speaking of the dark web, hackers and scammers are a big part of the more obvious danger on the internet because it could lead to accidentally giving out information or having it forced out of your computer. Although much information does not need to be stolen because so much of it is willingly put online anyways. However, some scammers and hackers employ things such as ransomware and trojans in order to get money from you or information on you.
- Computers allow for an almost constant spread of misinformation that could be potentially dangerous to people. Whether it’s politics or some other important topics. Many things have misinformation that can lead people into dangerous ways of thinking.
