Cyber attacks are very prominent in todays society. Nowadays there are more and more attacks online due to the fact that more and more people are getting on the internet. Eventually, with time, software engineers can figure out what exactly causes a specific cyberattack, and they can take the necessary steps to update the software and fix it, whether it is a bug in the software’s code, or something different. Unfortunately, while software engineers can thwart one avenue of hackers, they definitely cannot thwart all avenues, nor can they permanently stop successful hacking or penetration attempts. This is due to the fact that hackers can just simply find or code another way in.

Though this makes the chance of getting hacked seem very high if you’re on a computer, engineers can still make networks safer. Obviously, the most straightforward solution would just be to fix any bug that allow attackers to exploit the system. While that is effective, a lot of times, hackers do not need any exploits in order to gain access to a network. So an even better solution is to develop a new network, or just massively update an existing network. Having a network that hackers aren’t familiar with will massively cut down the amount of success in hacking attempts, at least at the beginning. Eventually, they will find a way in, but its natural, and updates to the infrastructure of your equipment is required for the improvement to any network.

Criminal justice and cybercrime intertwine quite a bit. For starters, one of the most obvious things to mention is that cybercrime is still a crime, and while it happened through means of the computer and internet, the crime will still be processed through the criminal justice system. Criminologists also study human factors, and the way criminals think, and a big component of that is how cybercriminals think because cybercrime makes up a large amount of crimes now. Another overlap that even relates to a previous lesson is that the dark figure exists within both regular and regular crime. The dark figure of crime is a large blind spot of crime where no one but the criminal knows what happened. This can occur within cybercrime much more frequently as the perpetrators are even more anonymous.
