Computers, without a doubt, have completely changed the way of living for every person in every country with them. Computers, in some ways, have made life safer, and in some other ways, less safe. The first thing I think about when I think about how computers have made our life safer is how they record everything. Every action we take online is recorded. It can be traced. Due to advancements in technology, we can now share our exact location with anyone in our contacts on our phone. This location can be updated by the person who you are sharing it with. This is an incredible feature for safety. I share my location with my trusted contacts, and I feel safer knowing that if something were to happen to me, my family will be able to locate my location. That is something truly amazing. There is a flip to this issue, too, however. In some ways, too much safety has made us less safe. In the wrong hands, technology can let anyone find anyone at any time. A simple post on Facebook of a breakfast meal at a restaurant or a picture of the new house a couple just bought can be enough for someone to learn that person’s location. That is unsafe and scary. Another way that computes have made the world less safe is the reliance on technology. I just watched a video a few days ago about Tesla vehicles and how the drives are sitting in the backseat while the car is on autopilot mode. This is dangerous and very unsafe. The complete trust and reliance on technology that we all have is very, very scary. Computers can have bugs in the code. They can, and have, had fatal errors. The complete trust in technology is very unsafe. Engineers make cyber networks safer through implanting firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, and other network traffic checkers. These network traffic checkers are like a security guard outside a nightclub. They check everyone who enters the network, and don’t let information inside if it looks malicious. This can prevent the network from being infiltrated by a virus.
