There are so many benefits for developing cybersecurity programs in business. In the world we now live in, cybersecurity is no longer a benefit, but a necessity. Every company’s most sensitive information, their data, is vulnerable to hacks. Cybersecurity programs that teach the employees about cybersecurity policies are a great way to lessen the security risks. The most basic benefit of these educational programs are that they might be able to stop an employee from clicking on a phishing email. This is a great benefit, since many cyber attacks begin through an employees email. Another benefit of setting up these programs is that it is a reminder and refresher on the reporting process. Employees need to know and be comfortable knowing who to tell if they see any suspicious behavior. If the chain of command changes on who to report to, the employees need to know that too. They need to know what information is considered “suspicious”. All of this information can be talked about during a refresher meeting. Along with education cybersecurity programs, adding actual cybersecurity programs to systems is incredibly beneficial. There are some basic cybersecurity activities that are important to start with. These include email protection, two-factor authentication, data backups, network security, and firewalls. These put basic protection onto the system that can deter a large majority of hacks. Keeping these plans cost around $10/month per attribute. I think it would also be important to do a vulnerability assessment. Although this can be more expensive (anywhere from $1500-$6000), it is important because it gives an audit of what is on the system. It lets the company know where their vulnerabilities are in their system. The benefits of having email security are that it reduces the chances of employees falling victim to a phishing attack. Firewalls are important because they can filter out suspicious packets trying to enter the network. 2-factor authentication is important because it is a simple, but sufficient layer of login security. It adds an extra layer of security for all employees logging into their system. Data backups are important because in the case of a natural disaster, their business can be saved in a different location, so the disaster won’t do as much damage as it could’ve. You can tell if your computer is safe by always checking for any new files that you didn’t add yourself to your computer. Your computer should be running at the speed it normally runs at. If these things are not true, there may be a virus on the computer.
