In my opinion the theory that explains cybercrime the best is the Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory , it suggests that individuals’ behavior, including engagement in cybercrime, is influenced by their sensitivities to reward and punishment. In the context of cybercrime, individuals may be motivated by the potential rewards such as financial gain or a sense of empowerment through illicit online activities, while their fear of being caught and punished may be diminished due to the perceived anonymity of the virtual space. This theory explains cybercrime by emphasizing the interplay between individuals’ psychological dispositions related to reward-seeking and their responses to the consequences of cybercriminal behavior, providing insights into the motivational factors driving online criminal activities.
