While it has with out a doubt brought numerous benefits and opportunities, it has also created new paths for workplace deviance. Cyber technology has given rise to such deviant behaviors, the reasons behind their occurrence, and the potential consequences they can have.
First, workplace deviance refers to any intentional behavior that violates organizational norms, policies, or ethical standards, resulting in harm to individuals or the organization itself. The increase of computers, the internet, and other digital tools has transformed the way work is conducted, which makes for increased connectivity, efficiency, and productivity. Although bosses may think that that the employee is working hard but they could be taking breaks by scrolling on websites and such.

This can create a hostile work environment, affecting employees self esteem and their well-being. Furthermore, data breaches and information theft has increased through the use of digital technology. This causes a significant threat to businesses’ privacy, and reputation. Another one is online fraud and theft. This is very common and has happened to many people that I know. There are also many reasons behind Workplace Deviance one being anonymity. The anonymity provided by online platforms often encourages individuals to engage in deviant behaviors without fear of being identified or facing immediate consequences. Many users can create accounts that have no information or name about them on it. This can also cause catfishing people into thinking you are someone you are not. Another is the lack of monitoring. It is more challenging for organizations to monitor and control employees’ online activities compared to traditional methods. Employees can be doing many things online that others can not find out immediately or they will not and out at all due to no one monitoring them. This lack of oversight can lead to increased deviant behaviors. Disconnection from consequences: The virtual nature of cyber technology creates a sense of detachment from the real-world consequences of one’s actions, making it easier for individuals to engage in deviant behaviors without guilt or remorse.
While cyber technology has definitely revolutionized the workplace, it has also created new opportunities for deviant behaviors. Cyber loafing, cyberbullying, data breaches, and online fraud are among the increasing workplace deviances facilitated by cyber technology.
