I continued to do tasks as before such as checking patients in\/out, answering the telephone, and relaying messages to the nurses. Something new that took place this second half was that I was introduced to another VCU Health neighboring family practice location, Family Medicine and Pediatrics at Warsaw. In comparison, this location was busier and included a pediatric side. I enjoyed the experience of greeting babies, young children, and adults all at once. When I worked on the checkout side of pediatrics, I enjoyed giving the kids stickers. I gained further knowledge in the medical terminology that I was unaware of in the beginning. It allowed for effective communication when I was relaying information to and from patients and nurses. I also gained a big understanding of the important factors of insurance when working in a doctor office. It was a little difficult at first to learn the many features and concepts, but I eventually got the grasp of it. The insurance was one of the main parts when checking patients in, so it was important to be aware of. I learned the importance of the ability to multitask, stay organized, and staying calm under pressure. Sometimes in the office you are likely to expect the phone consistently ringing, a lot of patients lined up at once, and many other situations occurring. However, I learned in those situations to work as a team to get all patients needs assisted as possible. Most of all, I had a pleasure being able to have the opportunity for this internship experience that I hope can take me further in my healthcare career.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Finishing up the second half of my 200 completion hours, I can definitely say I have got a great feel of what it is like to work in the healthcare field.
