Journal Entry #8

Media in various forms, such as news articles, television shows, movies and social media, often sensationalize cyber attacks and portray hackers as mysterious and highly trained individuals. While this can raise awareness of the importance of cyber security, it can also lead to misunderstandings and instill fear. The media tends to focus on dramatic cyber attacks, such as major data breaches or ransomware attacks, rather than the everyday cyber threats that people and organizations face. This biased portrayal can create feelings of powerlessness and exaggerate the capabilities of cybercriminals. It is important for the media to provide a balanced and accurate view of cybersecurity, highlighting both the risks and the preventive measures that can be taken to reduce them. As individuals, we should strive to educate ourselves beyond media headlines and seek reliable sources of information to develop a more nuanced understanding of cybersecurity.
