Fake or malicious links are commonplace to scam people out of data or sensitive
information like your credit cards or your social security number. Oftentimes, fake links are
disguised to look like real websites with only a small difference in its domain name. So, where
do we run into fake links? Normally when searching on search engines like google you will not
find fake or malicious links. Instead, malicious links are usually sent out in phishing emails that
are designed to gain your trust, or make you panic. For example, you might receive an email
from Wells Fargo that requests your bank details. The only issue is, it’s not real, you may not
even bank with Wells Fargo. When coming across a fake link, realize that there will be small
misspellings in the domain name. If you still trust it look for pop up ads that don’t belong or use a
website checker to verify if the site is real.
